The immediate past Chairman of Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State, Hon. Augustine Oloruntogbe, has said despite the agitation for Local Government autonomy, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has never tampered with funds meant for LGAs.
Oloruntogbe confidently said the Governor had umpteenth time vowed neither to divert nor slash funds meant for the third tiers of government, adding that Local Government under Akeredolu witnessed tremendous development.
The erstwhile Council Boss revealed this while fielding questions from newsmen from the Federated Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) during a media parley on Wednesday at the Press Centre, Adegbemile Akure, the state capital.
He explained that through the decisive leadership of Mr. Governor, all the 18 local government areas were able to acquire brand new motor graders, the first time for such to be recorded in the history of the state.
“In Akoko South West Local Government, we have 2 motor graders and I also ensured that all expenses passes through due diligence. I have contributed my own quota to the development of my people and I fought a good fight”, he added.
Reeling out some of his achievements in office, Hon. Oloruntogbe said the primary health care facility being enjoyed now across the 18 LGs was facilitated through Mr. Governor’s intervention shortly after taking over the reins of power from the last administration.
Sharing his personal encounters, Hon. Oloruntogbe commended Governor Akeredolu for toeing the path of peace saying the present administration suffered a lot of consequences from past administration
“Today, under Governor Akeredolu’s leadership, Ondo State was adjudged the Best run Primary Health Care System in Nigeria. We have been able to provide improved access to primary health care, basic education and we ensured prompt payment for pensioners and primary school teachers”, he added.
He also thanked Governor Akeredolu for setting the pace in the area of security of lives and properties noting that nothing thrives where there is no security.
In his charge to members of the pen profession, he called for support for the administration of President Buhari, urging media men to project positivism so that young people are motivated to take up opportunities.
In the same vein, he craved for support for local councils across the state as the February 2024 Local Government Election dateline draws near.
