RE: PDP NOMINATION OF MHR CANDIDATE

by Roving

The PDP major stakeholders in Akoko North met in the Irun Akoko country home of Hon. Fatai Adams on Wednesday 22nd 2023 to deliberate on the choice of candidate for the by-election into the lower chamber of the National Assembly.

A wrong information  filtered out to the public at the end of the meeting that a political neophyte, Hon. (Prince) Daniel Omolola who recently became a member of the PDP and who did not have a voting right in Akoko North was the preferred candidate. These are some of the reasons for the wrong insinuation of the alleged preference:

  • That Akoko North East has produced the senator therefore, they can’t produce the MHR.

That the second term victory of Hon. Bunmi Tunji Ojo from Akoko North West constituency, who has now become the Minister of Interior, be  allowed to run out by another person from Akoko North West to fill the vacant seat.

This arguments are seen by the preponderance of opinions not to be logical because PDP can’t be working with the module of APC. They are two different parties with different grundnorms.

Again, Akoko North has an agelong rotational template for the election into the lower chamber of the National Assembly NASS of which candidates from Akoko North West have equitably been beneficiaries.

Arguments were given to allege that  some powerful individual are playing the script of APC by fielding a political neophyte, a weak candidate to contest against an alleged annointed candidate from Akoko North West.

Majority of the leaders from Akoko North East kicked against the preference of the said neophyte who would not be able to match a candidate of APC. Such a game was played in the recent general elections, which put PDP at a disadvantage.

The official position of the party now is that the work of the 20-man panel is inconclusive. A six-man committee chosen to complete the work of the 20-man committee has not made their imputs; therefore, leaders of the party in Akoko North should tidy up their work and forward it to the Onoo State PDP’s State Working Committee. The committee should choose between the two leading candidates that had been rated about a month ago.

It should be emphasized for the avoidance of any ambiquity that the PDP has not picked a candidate for the by-election to fill the vacant MHR seat for Akoko NE/NW Federal Constituency.
