On Friday, 15th of December, 2023, Pa Chief Williams Abegunde Fagbegi, the father of the former Secretary to the Ondo state government, Ifedayo Abegunde was laid to rest in an elaborate burial ceremony in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
Ifedayo Abegunde ( Abena ) is now the Executive Director, Corporate Services of Niger Delta Development Commission ( NDDC ).
Roving Reporters Online, gathered that as parts of preparation for a befitting burial ceremony, The NDDC boss influenced the construction of the roads linking the ifesowapo quarters, off Ondo road in the state capital as well as the installation of street lights.
Roving Reporters Online also observed that all the roads as well as nooks and crannies of the area have been installed with solar powered street lights.
Our correspondent who went round the area counted 95 solar powered street lights being installed close to one another.
The 95 counted by Roving Reporters excluded the ones that the community had installed in the area to illuminate the area at night.
Parts of the solar powered poles are painted blue, in a pattern very similar to the pattern of solar powered street lights installed by the NDDC in many parts of the state and other oil producing states.
Speaking with Roving Reporters, some residents of the area thanked Abegunde for having such huge impact on the area.
However, other residents are of the opinion that such huge number of solar powered street lights which flooded the streets in Ifesowapo area, could be spread to other parts of the state capital, so that others could also benefit.
A community leader who preferred anonymity said, “ Abena has done a wonderful job and the people of Ifesowapo quarters would always remember him for all the road construction and the installation of street lights.
“But If you ask me I will say the solar lights are too many for such community when many other parts of the state capital are always in total darkness at night.
“Even many major streets in Akure are in dark since the streets lights installed by Mimiko are no longer working as it they used to.
“They should have spread such to other areas for the benefits of others too. That’s my opinion.”
