A lawmaker in the Ondo state house of assembly, Hon. Nelson Akinsuroju representing Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo constituency has put smiles on the faces of widows and the aged in his constituency under a new empowerment scheme.
The Widow and Aged Empowerment Scheme was on Saturday launched with the aim of enhancing the lives of vulnerable individuals in Ile oluji/ Oke Igbo constituency as 100 widows as well as aged received food items from the lawmaker.
Speaking at the inauguration of the empowerment scheme in Ile Oluji, Akinsuroju said the scheme would continue to assist the vulnerable, aged and widows.
Akinsuroju explained that the initiative would also provide financial assistance, and healthcare for the people of his constituency and foster financial independence and the physical well-being of widows and the elderly.
Akinsuroju said, “You all will remember that during the process of my campaign earlier this year, I promised to prioritize the welfare of the widows and aged in this Constituency, after our victory at the polls and the subsequent victory at the court of appeal, I have set my heart at fulfilling this promise.
“The widows and aged are special people to me, they hold a very important role in the society and they all require our care, attention and help in whichever way we can.
“As I have promised, I shall continue to prioritize the welfare of this special people and I will use my office to ensure that I put a smile on their faces.
“Today is the beginning of the actualization of the promises made, this is just a tip of the iceberg.
“I shall work hand in hand with other relevant stakeholders in this Constituency to ensure that we do our best to better the lives of the widows and aged.
“I wish to appreciate the steadfast prayers and love I have enjoyed right from the declaration of my ambition to be your representative at the Ondo State House of Assembly, I am honoured and humbled to have you people around me.
“I am grateful to the leadership of my political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and providing an enabling environment for the actualization of our campaign promises.
