Following the crisis rocking the main opposition party in Ondo state, the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has summoned a crucial stakeholders meeting of 49 of its key members to be led by a former governor of the state, Dr Olusegun Mimiko scheduled for Monday, 29th January, 2024 in Abuja.
In a memo signed by Hon. Umar Bature, National Organizing Secretary of the party, and obtained by Roving Reporters, the leaders were invited to “a consultative and interactive meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC) of our great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party.”
According to the memo, venue of the meeting is at Nec Hall, PDP National Secretariat, Wadata, Fct, Abuja. Time: 11:00am Prompt.
“Please note that only invited Guests will be allowed in the meeting,” the memo said.
While the agenda of the meeting was not divulged by the party leadership, Roving Reporters learnt that the meeting was called to address leadership crisis within the party and to reflect on the future of the party ahead of the governorship election in November.
The state chairman of the PDP in Ondo state, Fatai Adam was recently suspended by the state working committee of the party.
A top member of the party who pleaded anonymity, said though he was not certain as to the exact purpose of the meeting, “It is clear to everyone that all is not well with the party and many of the party leaders are not pleased with how Fatai Adams had been running the affairs of the party since he became the chairman.
“One of such issues is ignoring party hierarchy in the state. If you observed the list of those invited for the meeting, you would see that it is arranged exactly the way it should be arranged.
By all standard, Dr Mimiko is the leader of PDP in Ondo state being former governor and chief Oluwateru and Agboola Ahayi follow being former deputy governors. Check the list as sent from the national Secretariat, you would understand they have set the record straight in the interest of peace to reign. It was not like that before. We know how they use to arrange such names before.”
The source who pointed out that the that the PDP remained the major opposition platform, added that it was however critical for party leaders to put the house in order if they are serious about challenging the ruling APC in the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo state.
