••• More victims give accounts of alleged extortion by officers of SIS Unit of Police in Ondo
A Victim, Peter Ayodele has narrated how some police officers from the Ondo command allegedly assaulted him and forced him to transfer a sum of N41,000 to their bank account in Akure, the State capital.
The Victim in an audio made available to Roving Reporters on Thursday recounted how the police officers from the Special Intervention Squad, SIS, beat him, his brother and arrested them without commiting any crime.
Ayodele said, “I went to Alagbaka Extension area to greet a brother and on my way coming back with my younger brother, we stood by the roadside.
“All of a sudden, I saw a taxi ( no number plate) coming towards us with speed. All passengers in the taxi wore black. Because of the spate of insecurity, I asked my younger brother to let us run and we were running for our lives because we didn’t know those inside the taxi.
“They alighted the taxi and started chasing us towards the bush where there are uncompleted buildings. They didn’t say anything nor introduce themselves for us to identify those that were chasing us.
“When I could no longer run, I fell down and got seriously wounded. So they picked me and my brother from different directions.
“One of them suddenly punched me in the face and I have been having issues with my eyes before that I could not see things from far of which doctors asked me to start treatment soon before the fateful day.
“I kept asking them what I did, they didn’t say anything. They took us to SIB.. They later took us to the SIS Unit.
“The woman who is their commander asked me to explain what happened and I did. To my surprise, the woman was asking why I ran and gave them order to detain me and my brother.
“They collected N40,000 from me and my brother and the guy using POS inside the SIB collected N1,000 charges making N41,000. I have the details and captured the police Officer’s face during the extortion. They called him Officer Bamidele.”
“The money they collected was not mine. It belongs to the man I am working for at the site.” he said.
Reacting, the Police Public Relations Officer Funmilayo Odunlami said, “The command has taken it up.”
However, on X, some victims alleged the SIS Unit of high handedness and corrupt practices among the officers.
Hello @Princemoye1,
There is a particular unit of the @OndoPoliceNg called SIS. They are notorious for randomly arresting young people, profiling them, and extorting money from them. They don’t use police vehicles and don’t wear police uniforms. This incident happened today, and I have reported it to the state PRO and also notified the @PoliceNG_CRU. I am deliberately bringing it to your attention for proper follow-up. Thank you.
