••• Explains Why Consensus failed among Ondo PDP Aspirants

Foremost Governorship Aspirant of the PDP in Ondo State Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, also known as OBA, yesterday said his aspiration and expected nomination as party candidate will herald a new dawn in the governance of Ondo State.

Speaking at the state party secretariat, Alagbaka, Akure, at his official declaration and presentation of his intent form to leaders of the party, Akingboye said he is not just seeking political power for the sake of power, but as a servant leader committed to the upliftment and empowerment of every citizen of Ondo State.

“I do not seek political power for the lure of the office, self aggrandisement or pecuniary gains of myself or family members but to create a new vista, broaden the state’s economic base, cut cost of governance, prioritise the welfare of the people, target rampant poverty and make the state safe, sane and secure for all its law abiding residnets and guests,” Akingboye in his speech at the party secretariat said.

The State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Tola Alabere while addressing the aspirant and the diverse assembly of party faithful, community leaders, students and supporters at the historic event, reiterated the party’s commitment to democracy and fair play, assuring Akingboyre and other aspirants of a level playing field in the upcoming primaries, emphasising the importance of unity and cohesion within the party to achieve its collective goals.

Akingboye, shortly after obtaining his forms in Abuja, on Monday, had confirmed that the consensus advocated by the leadership of the party had failed.

He said, “It was suggested by the leaders and elders of the party that since the party has decided to zone to the Southern Senatorial District, and nine of us have indicated interest in the same election, they suggested that we should go back home and discuss with each other and see if we can prune the number of aspirants.

“We have tried it but sincerely, I don’t think that it is going to work out because every one of us believes that he is the best person to do the job. The truth is that if you are not tested or trusted, I don’t think that Ondo State is ready to entrust the mantle to someone who will not be able to carry the load at this particular time. So, by implication, the consensus advocated by the leadership of the party has failed.”

Akingboye had arrived at the Akure Airport to drums, cultural troupes from across the State belting out sonorous tunes and gaily dressed supporters who rode with him in a motorcade to the party secretariat venue of the reception.

Other leaders who spoke at the event showed palpable excitement and enthusiasm which one claimed underscores the unity and anticipation that exemplified by the widespread support and anticipation surrounding his aspiration.

Jeffrey Abidoye of Akoko South West Local Government Area echoed sentiments of solidarity and support for Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, praising him for his integrity, dedication, and vision for Ondo State. He highlighted Akingboye’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the state to greater heights.

Representing the non-indigenous communities in Ondo State, Hon. Azuka Idima reaffirmed their unwavering allegiance to Otunba Bamidele Akingboye’s candidacy, citing his inclusive leadership style and track record of community engagement. He commended the party leadership for ensuring a transparent and inclusive candidate selection process.

Epigy Adegbesoye from Akingboye’s Okitipupa Local Government Area described Akingboye’s aspiration as a beacon of hope for the people of Ondo State. He urged supporters to rally behind Akingboye’s vision for a more prosperous and equitable future for all citizens.

Akingboye in his closing remarks expressed gratitude to party leaders, his teeming supporters and the people of Ondo State for the overwhelming support and pledged to lead with integrity, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to the welfare of the people. He emphasized his belief in the power of unity and collaboration in driving meaningful change and development in the state.

Otunba Bamidele Akingboye’s official declaration heralds a new era in Ondo State politics, marked by a renewed sense of hope, unity, and determination to overcome challenges and build a prosperous future for all.
