A former governorship candidate in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) said he was betrayed by those he thought were in support of his governorship ambition in 2016.
Jegede who was the candidate of the PDP in 2016 and 2020, contested against late governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu but lost on the two occasions.
He recounted his experience in Akure while addressing his teeming supporters across the 18 local governments of the state on Thursday where he also told them that he would not be contesting in the forthcoming governorship election in November in the state.
He however did not mention any name or names but noted that he was committed to sacrificing towards providing solutions to the problems of the party rather than joining to compound it.
Jegede said, “It has been long that I have been contributing to the development of PDP in Ondo State and it is not because of myself alone, but because of the development of the party.
“When I started in 2016, I thought some people were supporting and backing me but looking back now, I could not see them again. They took me to a ten storey building and wanted to push us down, but God didn’t allow them.
“When I contested in 2016, we spent some months in the Court and we could only prepare for the election three days to election. I was able to get the party’s ticket and became the flagbearer.
“We went into the election and those I thought were behind me, they were not. As I am speaking,if they were listening, their conscience would be telling them.”
