As the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares for its primary election in Ondo state, a chieftain of the party, Biyi Poroye has asked the people and social critics in the state to investigate and dig into the past and present of all the aspirants contesting in the gubernatorial election across the party lines.

Biyi Poroye, the chairman, Emerging Political Platform (EPP), who made the call on Monday at a press conference in Akure, the Ondo state capital said; “how can aspirants who can not tell how they become millionaire overnight want to become the Governor of Ondo State?

Those who have handled the resources of the state with questionable issues.”

According to him, people of Ondo state needs to ask questions and do thoroughly investigation on those that are contesting in the governorship race in order to know the best person among them.

Poroye, who also doubles as the chairman, Ondo Liberation Initiatives (OLI) and Co-Convener, Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization Foot Soldiers (LACO-FS) maintained that all the aspirants within the APC are preeminently qualified. “But we are lucky to have Lucky Aiyedatiwa as Governor, who is so much loved by the people. We should encourage him to complete the good legacy of late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.”

He said further; “we, the political stakeholders in Ondo State, want to appeal to members of our great party, the APC, to consider the need for us to put forward a tested and now trusted hand in the person of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa. The governor has only spent 73 days in office, not yet 100 days, and he has exceeded the masses’ expectation.

“Yes, power has shifted to the Southern senatorial district through common understanding. However, we should also come to terms with the fact that the Ilaje part of that district, from where the governor hails, had until now been unable to produce a Governor for Ondo State.

“All the aspirants within the party are preeminently qualified, but we are lucky to have Lucky Aiyedatiwa as Governor, who is so much loved by the people.

“We would, therefore, appeal to our party members to tap into this wisdom and put Ondo State on the path of progress, through the election of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in our coming party primaries.”

Poroye, who also spoke on the alleged certificate scandal being leveled against Governor Aiyedatiwa said; “this tale of certificate scam is no longer new and it beggars questions as to why it is going viral upon nothing. Definitely, detractors are crying wolf where there is none.

“This has in no doubt addressed the worry of all those who have been asking that how could Aiyedatiwa enter secondary school in 1980 and pass out in 1982.

“We indeed love this sort of inquest, and we want to task the good people of Ondo state and social critics to dig into the past and present of all the governorship aspirants and sponsors, across the party lines.

“Governor Aiyedatiwa, since he has been in the saddle, has exerted the best of his energies and intellect, to put Ondo State on the path of progress. He, in turn, is strengthened all along by the Almighty, apparently for his good conscience.

“Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has in close to four months since assuming office, shocked bookmakers with his superlative performance. He started out by clearing public workers’ unpaid salaries and allowances, despite the lean situation of the state’s resources. That, indeed, informed why he couldn’t do a full-hog replacement of the cabinet he dissolved at the first instance.

“He proceeded from there to pay N35,000 palliative extra-income to civil servants in the face of national economic hardship. Affirmed, Governor Aiyedatiwa is not owing salaries till date in Ondo State, which is a rarity.

“In tow, he settled upwards of four months of unpaid salary for workers at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo, besides paying off arrears of pensions and gratuities to retirees. Only recently, the Governor gave approval for the immediate employment of 200 staff in Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS).

“He, in tandem, approved the employment 100 health personnel in the first phase of his employment across sectors. Same also applied for the employment of 600 personnel for HMB, PHCC, and others in the health sector and application is ongoing.”
