Oyo College of Nursing and Midwifery Matriculates 130 Pioneer Jambites

The Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery has matriculated 130 pioneer students enrolled through the Joint Admission Matriculation Examination Board (JAMB) into the nursing programme .

Welcoming the 130 matriculants, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetumobi commended the efforts of the Governor Seyi Makinde in enhancing the quality of Nursing education in the State.

The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Kehinde Ayinde, stated that the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration prioritized the advancement of Nursing education by introducing the award of an academic certificate of National Diploma in addition to the usual Registered Nurse and Midwife traditionally awarded by the Nursing Council.

The Commissioner congratulated the matriculants and charged them to be of good conduct and always bear in mind that they are partners with the State Government in providing Healthcare delivery.

She said: This significant achievement was made possible through a collaborative partnership between the Nursing Council and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The programme’s inclusion under the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board’s (JAMB) Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) indicates the administration’s commitment towards expanding access to quality Nursing education and ensuring the development of Nursing Professionals in the State”.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Provost of the College, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi welcomed the matriculants and hinted that one hundred and thirty (130) students were enrolled into the Basic Nursing programme of the College.

She reiterated that plans are in top gear to invite the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for accreditation of the commencement of the Higher National Diploma which would make graduates of the programme eligible to participate in the National Youth Service Scheme.

Dr. Owolabi expressed her profound appreciation to the Governor of Oyo State, for his unwavering support for the College and for providing a conducive environment for learning.
