Reactions have trailed the nomination of Dr Rotimi Adeyemi by the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Gbenga Edema ahead of the November election in Ondo State.
Some community leaders and other stakeholders commended the NNPP for picking Adeyemi, an indigene of Akure, describing as a gesture that Akure community must reciprocate through massive votes during the forthcoming election.
Reacting, Mr. Gabriel Owoyemi, an elder and indigene of Ifedore Local Government applauded the party for nominating Adeyemi, who a retired Local Government of Environment Services and an indigene of Akure in Akure South Local Government Area of the state.
He described the decision of the NNPP as a good turn that will be rewarded with votes in the other.
Owoyemi said, “Following the release of the final list of the Governorship nominees and their running mates in the accredited 17 political parties that will participate in the November 16th 2024 election by INEC, it is only the New Nigeria People’s party that featured an indigene of Akure speaking areas of Akure North, Akure South and Ifedore as Deputy Governor.”
He added that it was only apposite that the good people of Akure speaking area would not forsake their own son.
Also Speaking, a prominent Akure leader Prince Sunday Akintide-Gbangba commended the NNPP on the choice of Adeyemi as Deputy Governorship candidate of the party.
He noted that it was only the NNPP of all the political parties in the State that has chosen an indigene of Akure as Deputy Governorship candidate from the Akure speaking areas of the State.
Akintide-Gbangba opined that NNPP has chosen a Worthy, Tested, Trusted, Refined And Reliable Comrade and Leader of No Mean Repute in person of Adeyemi.
He therefore prayed for the success of the NNPP deputy governorship candidate and implored people to vote for him en masse.
On his part, the immediate Past President of Association of Akures in the Local Government of Ondo State, Asiwaju Oluwole Ademoyegun applauded the choice of Adeyemi as the NNPP running mate candidate in the State.
He noted that it was an oversight for all other parties to have neglected the choice of making an indigene of Akure speaking area their Deputy Governorship candidate.
Also reacting, Egbe Omo Oke Aro, a social-philanthropist group in the Akure South Local Government area, commended the NNPP on its choice of making Adeyemi, the running mate to the party Governorship candidate, Gbenga Edema.
The Vice President of the group, Abayomi Ojo praised the NNPP for picking Adeyemi, as the party Deputy Governor nominee, saying it is a right decision and the placing of a square peg in a square hole.
He noted with pains that all other political parties neglected picking an indigene of Akure speaking area for the Deputy Governor’s slot, save for the NNPP.
He boasted that the votes of the people of Akure speaking areas should not be toyed with as it will be delivered to their son, Adeyemi on the day of election.
