For God’s sake, market women should be considerate. Ere A je p’ajude (making greedy profits) is not the best. We are all human beings and when buying at a very low price, why should you sell at very high price ? Please think of others and be your brothers’ keepers .

The Poultry Association Of Nigeria, PAN, Ondo state Branch has raised alarm over what it described as outrageous price of eggs by market women in Ondo state,
The association said such greedy and selfish attitude of the traders has frustrated efforts of the both the state and the Federal Government that recently distributed 1,200 tonnes to maize to poultry farmers as palliatives, aimed at reducing prices of poultry products in the state.
It will be recalled that as part of efforts towards food security the federal government through the state government, in April, distributed maize palliatives and commodities to farmers in State.
The 40 trailers of grains, supplied by the Federal Government, were distributed to poultry, piggery, and fishery farmers across the 18 local government areas of the State ,with a promise by the farmers to ensure price crash of their produces.
Speaking in an interview with Roving Reporters, Segun Bolarinwa, Ondo State Vice Chairman of The Poultry Association Of Nigeria, PAN who said the price of Eggs have been dropped to N3,000 per crate at the farm gate, expressed worries that many market women were still selling to the people at the rate of N4,500 and above per crate.
Bolarinwa however called on the Ondo state government to urgently put in place measures to ensure price control and make the traders drop their price of Eggs with immediate effect.
He said, “Before now, particularly up till end of last year, most of our farmers almost packed up because the prices of feeds were so high. The prices of drugs and all other inputs were on the high side which made it difficult for them to even make profit. It is the aim of every business person to maximize profits.
“The gesture of the federal government’s intervention on maize distribution and the drugs given to us and some other incentives, should come regularly to encourage the farmers to sell at a lower price because. It will serve as relief for them and their businesses.
“The government has started well by giving us maize and now we are expecting another consignment and more will still come, so in that wise, I believe the farmers would sell at a good and reduced price.
“The issue we have are these market women. Many of them are very greedy. When they buy at very low price, they will decide to sell at a very skyrocketed prices in the market under the pretext that they bought it expensive. It is a lie.
“Since the last maize the state government gave to us in April, there have been a downturn in the prices of eggs in most parts of this state.
“The farm difference is N 3,000 per crate for average size apart from those who specifically want some bigger sizes. The normal average size of eggs from the farm gate is now N3,000.
“If egg sellers buy at the farm gate of N3,000, I believe it is reasonable for them to just add about N,500 as gain so that the will be selling at N3,500 per crate instead of N4,500 and above.
“For God’s sake, market women should be considerate. Ere A je p’ajude (making greedy profits) is not the best. We are all human beings and buying at a very low price, why should you sell at very high price. Please think of others and be your brothers’ keepers .
“The association is ready to sanction any member who fails to comply and there are many ways to sanction them.
“Apart from the efforts we are making as an association, the government should come up with a policy to monitor the prices by these market women to ensure that they comply so that the aim of having food security and reduction in the prices of good be enhanced.
“The association has already mandated our farmers since the last distribution of maize by the state government that they should cooperate with the government because we have made a pledge to the government that as long as we have relief from its end, we will ensure that there is reduction in the prices of eggs and other poultry products.
“If the feeds portion is on the low side, the cost of broilers will be low.
“The more the government gives to us, the more the effects will be felt through reduction of prices.”
