Ondo Commissioner Warns Politicians against Ignoring Phone Calls

by Roving

The commissioner for lands and housing in Ondo state, Mr Akinwunmi Sowore has urged political office holders to desist from the attitude of ignoring phone calls of their people in the interest of good governance and healthy politics.

Sowore made the call in Akure on Monday when addressing some APC members in the state.

He described as a bad attitude, a situation where politicians were no longer accessible to the people they govern.

Sowore said, “When we are working during electioneering campaigns, or the contest of elections for one of us to be elected or appointed, or everyone to be in government, we follow ourselves together, and at that level, we’ll be picking calls, we’ll be doing everything together.

“If you don’t see me for two days, you call me. If I don’t see you for three days, I call you. But in most cases, when we hold the power, some caucuses will now form overnight. we now become something else, refusing to pick calls. I think nobody is exempted.

“We are all victims of that syndrome, which I believe is not too good. It’s not healthy for our politics. I want to plead to all of us that are holding positions this time around, that we should not fall prey of this.

“After an election that everybody pursued, we all tried, we did all that we could do. We now go to a stage where people will gang up and say they are the only people that will benefit. They are the only people who will do this and do that.

“In my case, I’m managing to at least neutralize this. I may not be perfect, but my office is open to everybody. In this new period, I’ve been appointed as commissioner, I will not tell anybody not to allow anybody to come into my office. And a lot of people can attest to this.

“Because it will help us a lot as leaders. If we have five leaders that are in positions,  and everybody in the party is accessible to all of our leaders, If you cannot get from this one, you will get from the other one. But the bottom line is that we should all open our doors wide, so that people can come in. So that people will not regret partaking in politics.

“That has been the case. Where some people have been in politics for several years, and they can’t do anything. It’s the sorry case, and pathetic.”
