Residents of Tutugbua, Adegolarin, Falowo and Ooye communities on Ondo road, in Akure, the Ondo state capital have petitioned Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to protest what they described as diversion of rehabilitation of road projects by some individuals in government.
The residents, in a letter addressed to Aiyedatiwa and obtained by Roving Reporters said it is unfortunate that the communities located around Danjuma area is on the verge of being cut off from the city as social economic activities of the people had paralyzed.
The letter dated 19th July, 2024 and signed by, Mr. Smart Ayodele, General Chairman and Mr. Bamidele Ayodele, General Secretary.
It reads, “It is very unfortunate that our communities that have been in existence before 1977 have not benefited from any government to date in the area of road construction.
“We have made countless approaches to successive governments to consider our communities in the area of road construction but at the point of award, it will be diverted to other places.
“It is highly very painful that economic activities have died in our area due to terrible bad roads. School children, market women and other road users have recorded countless accidents on okada, vehicle owners are relocating from our communities on daily basis despite the fact that we are in the heart of the city.
“One of the bad portions of the road was recently repaired by a religious organization to save lives from incessant accident.
“We are peace lovers, we play our civic duties as at when due. It will interest Mr. Governor to note that there are six polling units in our area. They are unit 22, 23, 57, 58, 59 and 60, all in Ward 2 of Akure South Constituency 2.
“We are therefore making a passionate appeal to Mr. Governor to please consider our request this time around by approving the inclusion of our roads among the roads to be rolled out by your Government for construction.
“We are confident that posterity will remember you kindly on this legacy project. If the road is constructed, it will ease accessibility from Ondo road through Danjuma to Ajipowo and Gaga to Idanre Garage to Oke-Aro road.”
