Planned Protest: Irekari LCDA Chairman,  Prince Adekunle Sues For Peace

by Roving

The Chairman of Transition Committee, Irekari Local Community Development Area, Ondo State, (LCDA) Hon. (Prince) Adekunle Dennis has pleaded with the youths in the area not to participate in the planned Protest across Nigeria.

The Chairman said this at Idoani, the headquarters of the LCDA while speaking with the press on the existing peace in the area.

The Chairman who described protest as fundamental right of everybody however said, it is not without its unforseen and dire consequences.

According to him, the existing peace we have been enjoying at Irekari today should not be toyed with under the pretext of protest as no one can predict or control what will come out of the protest.

As he put it, “previous experiences had shown us that protest can escalate to violence, chaotic situation, destruction of lives and property or even war of which the scars are still living with us till today”.

He therefore called the attention of the co-ordinators of the planned protest to the efforts of both federal and state governments at resetting Nigeria which includes the following:-

  • Removal of the oil subsidies and stimulation of the private sectors.
  • Rebuilding the credibility of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) & unification of Nigeria foreign exchange market.
  • Approving N50 billion as nano grants to each  1,300 small businesses across the 774 LGAs in Nigeria.
  • In 2023, he approved the released & distribution of 42,000 metric tons of improved grains for planting.
  • And this year, he equally distributed 740 trucks of grains to the 36 states of the federation including Abuja for the less privileged Nigerians.
  • This is in addition to local government autonomy.
    –  Increase of workers salary from N30,000 to N70,000.
  • Youth empowerment
  • Regular promotion of workers
  • Seamless application & collection of national passport & even the creation of 33 LCDA in the state are all model efforts at re-creating Nigeria.

He at this point appealed to the co- ordinators and leaders of the planned protest to reconsider their steps and embrace the peace plans of both federal and state government to embrace dialogue.
