Ondo 2024: Mass Defection, Resignation Galore as PDP loses grips Ahead of Poll

The Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo state is being hit with defections and resignations as more prominent members have decided to dump the party ahead of the November governorship election in the state.

Roving Reporters had reported that trusted allies and followers of the former governor Olusegun Mimiko have concluded plans to dump the party and join the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Similarly, A former member, House Of Representatives from Ondo State, Kolade Akinjo on Sunday resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Akinjo represented Ilaje/Ese-odo federal constituency in the national assembly until 2023.

He also contested and lost to the PDP governorship candidate in Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, in the party’s primary ahead of the November governorship election.

Akinjo made his new decision known through a resignation later addressed to the ward chairman of PDP in Mahin Ward IV, Ilaje Local Government of Ondo State.

Although he did not disclose his next line of actions, sources said Akinjo is also defecting to the APC.

Roving Reporters also gathered that those set to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress APC in the state met with the APC leadership on Saturday and all arrangements had been concluded to announce their defection.

According to the source, those expected to join the APC include former Speaker, Ondo state House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele , former works Commissioner during Mimiko’s government, Gboye Adegbenro, a former House of Representatives lawmaker, Joseph Akinlaja.

Others are former PDP state Chairman, Ebenezer Alabi who resigned his membership in July, and Former education Commissioner, Olajide Adejuyigbe among others.
