Portholes: Aiyedatiwa should stop Ministry of Works from Wasting Public Funds

by Roving

Ondo State Government should not allow its Officials in the Ministry of Works from wasting public funds in the name of patching potholes in the state capital.

Patching an asphalt road with cement concrete is not a good idea in most situations.

Paving concrete over asphalt may work in the short term, but it’s not a good technique.

Asphalt is flexible by design depending on factors such as temperature and the quality of the subgrade materials beneath it.

Engineers in the ministry of works have been doing this over the years in Ondo State, filling potholes with cement concrete and the technique has been failing each time they do such.

To make things worse, they embark on such filling of portholes during this current rainy period as it is happening now along Ondo Road in Akure. ( See picture below)

This is absolutely waste of public funds and must be stopped.

Though there is also a claim that the engineer use Stone base material, the fact remains that over the years the work being done by the officials of the ministry is not always the best as many of those portholes fail within a short period of time after they have been filled and before you know it, they would again come back to patch which would eventually gulp large amount of money.

Roving Reporters considers this as a way of ‘finding food for the boys’ in the ministry and governor Aiyedatiwa should not allow this to continue.

The engineers know the right thing to do and they must be directed to do so.

If quality job is done and those concerned have the interest of motorists and other road users at hearts, portholes would not be a project that government would be expending fund on almost on monthly basis.
