Some residents of Akure, the Ondo State capital are groaning over the continued accumulation of refuse heaps on major Roads.
The residents, who spoke with Roving Reporters on Thursday lamented the development and called on the relevant authorities to intensify efforts in evacuating the refuse scattered all over the place.
Roving Reporters observed that waste is again mounting on Oba Adesida road, Ondo Road and Arakale Road as almost all major Bus-Stops and junctions and littered for days.
Roving Reporters also reports that piles of unsightly refuse seen on the road medians along the roads were capable of creating health and environmental challenges.
Mr Segun Adeyanju, a residents described the situation as embarrassing and unhealthy.
He said “ They used to blame ZL Global Alliance not doing its job, but unfortunately they have not found solutions to the problems. Look at the state capital. It is a pity that Akure has turned to this.
“It is not a sight to behold and urgent action should be done to address the situation which is unhealthy.”
Reacting, the Commissioner for Environment, Oyeniyi Oseni apologised to the people of the state over the development.
He said, “Let me first of all tender my apology for such observation in the last two days. It has not been like that since the beginning of this administration.
“We have some little gap that is being addressed and we are also concluding the resolution on it.
“We have a strategic plan to restore Akure to most neatest state capital in the country.”
