The National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS) has expressed concern over alleged interference in its activities by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Student Affairs to the Ondo State Government, Hon. Laolu Solomon Kelvin.
In a statement signed by its executive council and senate leaders, NAOSS accused the SSA of orchestrating a smear campaign against the association and its president through unauthorised individuals posing as representatives of a so-called “Council of NAOSS Presidents and Secretaries.”
The statement highlighted that two individuals, Oluwarotimi Oluwatosin and Adetoba Akinte, whom it described as “data boys” loyal to the SSA, have been instrumental in spreading misinformation and attempting to blackmail the association.
NAOSS cited several instances, including the unauthorised release of confidential payment instructions and the promotion of a fake platform, allegedly at the behest of the SSA.
“Following the bursary and scholarship flag-off, Hon. Kelvin unleashed a series of attacks, including a physical altercation involving a chair, and has continued to sow discord using Oluwatosin and Akinte,” the statement read.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to constitutional principles, citing provisions in its constitution that define its structure and operations.
It emphasised that no external individual or group could assume control of its administration outside the constitutional framework.
NAOSS also called on the Ondo State Government to take immediate action against the SSA, accusing him of creating division and undermining the unity of the student body.
“It is disheartening that an individual tasked with managing student affairs and fostering unity is instead orchestrating division.
“Such actions are detrimental to the cohesion and progress of NAOSS and must be halted immediately,” the statement added.
Addressing recent reports, including publications by Sahara Reporters, NAOSS cautioned media outlets against publishing unverified information.
The association warned that failure to adhere to journalistic standards could harm its reputation and further destabilise the student community.
In line with its constitution, NAOSS stated that the Senate Arm has the sole authority to summon members or officers for legitimate and constitutional purposes.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability in all its affairs.
The association’s Ethics and Privilege Committee (EPC), described as the disciplinary arm of the Senate, was said to be actively reviewing actions against individuals undermining the union under external influence.
“NAOSS remains a beacon of student leadership and development. We urge all stakeholders to stand firm against divisive tactics and external interference,” the statement concluded.
The statement was jointly signed by key officers of NAOSS, including Senator Hammed Oyelade (Global President), Comrade Ogunga Benjamin (Vice President), Comrade Fakuyi Olayemi (General Secretary), and Senator Ayomide Rufus (Senate President).
Other signatories included; Comrades Adesida Oluwa Muyiwa (Assistant General Secretary), Omotayo Oluwaseyi (Financial Secretary), Ibinuolapo Sola-Royal (Treasurer), Akinloye Segun (Director of Sport), Agbaje Kayode (Director of Special Duties), Senator Obebe Mike (Deputy Senate President) and Senator Abilogun Moses (Clerk).
