An elder statesman and retired military general, Oluyemi Joseph Bajowa has installed a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai as the second patron of the prestigious Institute of Security, Nigeria.
Bajowa installed the immediate past Nigeria’s Ambassador to Benin Republic at the weekend during the 17th annual international security conference 2024 at the University of Lagos.
Bajowa said the institute would benefit immensely in the wealth of experience and leadership qualities of the former army chief, describing him as a man who has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the security and well-being of our great nation.
He said, ” His Excellency, Ambassador Lt. General T Y Buratai is a distinguished military officer with 40 years of service to the Nigerian Army. He served as the Chief of Army Staff from 2015 to 2021 and played a crucial role in the fight against Boko Haram and other security challenges. His Excellency, General TY Buratai is a highly decorated officer with numerous awards and honours for his bravery and service.
” As the 20th Chief of Army Staff, His Excellency, General TY Buratai played a crucial role in shaping the country’s military strategy, particularly in the fight against Boko Haram. His leadership and expertise were instrumental in promoting peace and stability in Nigeria. The veteran General and diplomat had distinguished himself as:
- Commander, Multinational Joint Task Force, where he played a key role in regional security operations.
II. Chief of Army Staff (2015-2021), where he led the Nigerian Army’s efforts against Boko Haram and other security threats.
III. Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, where he represented Nigeria’s interests in regional diplomacy.
Throughout his illustrious career, His Excellency, General T Y Buratai embodied the values of courage, integrity, and loyalty. His dedication to the Nigerian Army and the nation is unparalleled, and his contributions to the fight against insurgency and terrorism have been invaluable.

Responding, Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai who accepted the honour, said the institute’s objectives aligned with his commitment towards security, education and excellence in the society.
He said, ” I am deeply honored to accept this noble role as the 2nd Patron of the Institute of Security Nigeria. Today marks a significant milestone in our collective pursuit of a safe and secure society.
