Fertiliser Giant, Indorama Eleme Fertiliser and Chemicals Limited, Nigeria has distributed handheld technology seedling planters to over 1,000 farmers in Ondo state free of charge.
The stainless steel corn planters were distributed to farmers at the 4th edition of the Ondo state international agricultural show and food fair, OSIAFFA, organised by the Ondo state Agricultural Commodities association, OSACA, in Akure, the state capital.
Speaking with Roving Reporters on Wednesday, Mr Tunji Ajiboye, the regional marketing executive manager for Indorama Fertilizer said the gesture was aimed at helping farmers towards boosting their farm produce.
Ajiboye said, “It has been our culture to attend every farmers’ Programmes. We were contacted about this conference and exhibition and thank God we are able to come down.
“We have been touching all the farmers who have visited our stand by giving them our crop management, Pens, key holders and the corn planters. These are the little things we can lay our hands on for this programme.
“In Indorama Fertilizer, we have the belief that whatever we collected from the farmers, we will have to return by giving them something reasonable.
“That we can ease the stress of farming for our farmers. Most especially the female and the student part of the farming system.
“It is a new technology. We launched this last year, December. It’s like a year now. In which the farmers are very, very happy about it. They have been accepting it all over Nigeria. Because it’s not Akure alone.
“We are moving to another season now, which is dry season. We are planning to get more of this. So far, our farmers have accepted it. We want to bring in more corn planters for them.
“We have distributed about 4,500 pieces this year alone nationwide. For this programme in Akure now, we are targeting about 1,000 pieces.
“A farmer that has been planting maybe two hectares of land before, with the help of this machine, I think he can plant more than two, maybe to five.
“We have the belief that after the programme, all the farmers participating in this programme will be able to go to their various areas or locations and talk to them about our products. In which we believe that whenever they want to buy any product for their farm now, they will come back and ask for our name, which is Indorama Fertilizer.
“Indorama Fertilizer has been a household name, and we have been educating farmers on how to make use of our fertilizer.“
