Ondo Stands still as Mimiko celebrates 70th Birthday

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo state on Monday led other eminent personalities in and outside the state to celebrate the former governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko on his 70th birthday ceremony.

The international Culture and Event Centre (The Dome) was filled to the brim as People of Ondo State gathered  to be part of a Divine Agenda Praise Night organised to celebrate the former governor Mimiko’s 70th birthday.

The state Deputy governor Dr Olayide Adelami and other members of the state executive council were also at the event while the Speaker of the Ondo state House of Assembly led other Lawmakers to grace the event.

Similarly, Former members of the state executive council who served under the celebrant for eight years as well as his political Allies graced the occasion.

Former political office holders and former lawmakers in the state were also at the event.

Dr Olusegun Mimiko was the Ondo state governor between 2009 and 2017 and he became the first governor to have served for eight years in the history of the state.

Traditional Rulers at the event included the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade, the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo , the Owa of Igbara-Oke, Oba Francis Agbede and Olu of Ilu-Abo, Oba Olu Falae among others.

Speaking, governor Aiyedatiwa lauded the achievements and legacy of former governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, describing him as a leader who served the state with distinction and left an indelible mark on its history.

Aiyedatiwa who described the occasion as a joyful moment of reflection and celebration, praised the former governor for being a trailblazer who not only started well but ended his tenure on a high note, emphasizing that such a legacy is worthy of recognition and admiration.

Aiyedatiwa said, “Dr. Mimiko is a leader who transformed Ondo State through impactful projects and policies that touched the lives of our people in profound ways. His dedication to human-centered governance earned him the love and respect of the citizens.

“This celebration is a testament to the legacy he has built and the affection people have for him. It is indeed a rare blessing to witness such an honour while still alive.”

The Governor noted that Dr. Mimiko’s efforts in infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and social programs remain a source of inspiration for the current administration and future leaders.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Mimiko described her husband as a visionary leader whose works have left a lasting imprint on the lives of the people.

Mrs Mimiko however urged the political class to emulate her husband and work towards leaving behind good legacies that would outlive them.

In a sermon, Pastor Wale Akinfesoye , Former Chaplain Government house chapel urged the celebrant to further dedicate his life to serving God.

Pastor Akinfesoye also charged those in positions of power to consider it as an opportunity to serve humanity having it minds that they would one day leave their positions.

In his response, the celebrant, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Ondo State and the organizers of the event for the overwhelming outpouring of love and appreciation.

Reflecting on his journey in public service, Dr. Mimiko said, “It is deeply humbling to be celebrated in this way. I am grateful to God, my family, and the good people of Ondo State for believing in my vision and supporting me throughout my tenure. This recognition motivates me to continue contributing to the development of our state in any way I can.”

Dr. Mimiko also acknowledged the role of his family in his achievements, singling out his wife, Oluwakemi, for her unwavering support.

Highlights of the event were music presentations, prayer sessions, and tributes, cutting of a birthday cake by the former governor and the presentation of gifts by friends, family, and dignitaries.
