Tragedy struck on Thursday as a truck killed four police officers and a female suspect in Ore, Odigbo local government Area of Ondo state
It was gathered that the officers were part of the monitoring Units of the state police command were said to have left Akure to make an arrest in the area.
Eye witness told Roving Reporters that the truck lost control while descending the ore bridge, rammed on the police vehicle and killing the victims inside their own vehicle.
“The victims observed the truck and tried to escape by driving towards the bush but unfortunately it was the same direction they went that the truck rammed on them.
“With the heavy noise emanating from the accident, everyone rushed to the scene, and on getting there we realised that the occupants were policemen. Three of them died on the spot, and one sustained injuries,” he said.
“The one that sustained injuries was rushed to the hospital. It was later that we had information that the lady that also died in the accident was a suspect who the police officers had come to arrest from Akure.”
It was also gathered that three of the policemen and female suspect died on the spot while the other police officer who was seriously injured had been rushed to an undisclosed hospital.
When contacted, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident.
Odunlami-Omisanya disclosed that the Command has launched an investigation to unravel what led to the incident.
