Ibadan Stampede: Oriyomi Hamzat, Naomi still in Prison

Contrary to the rumours making the rounds  on  social media, that  the   three  suspects detained at Agodi correctional facility over the recent  stampede  in ibadan  have  been granted bail  have  been  found  to be  false.

A reliable source at the centre who does not want his name mentioned said three suspects including a popular radio presenter, Mr Oriyomi Hamzat, estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, Olori Naomi Silekunola , and the principal of  Islamic high school , Abdullahi Fasasi were still at the facility.

The source said their detention was evident following solidarity visit to the centre by notable Nigerians including  journalists, politicians, public speakers and religious bodies.

 ” I can authoritatively tell you that they are still here even some of your colleagues were here today .the story is false . Court don’t sit on Saturday. if there is any update , you journalist must  have been in the know of  it”

 Another source maintained that  the order of the court has not been tampered  with.

  ” The video on social media is totally untrue, even the oyo state chairman of the Nigeria union of journalist  was here today. Anybody that doubt this should come to  Agodi’

 The Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State, had last Tuesday, ordered the remand of the three suspects  at Agodi Correctional  facility.

The trio were arraigned in connection with the recent stampede at Islamic High school where a children funfair  resulted in the death of thirty five children and left several others injured.

The Presiding Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, ruled that the defendants remain in custody pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution of the state Ministry of Justice.

The case was adjourned to the 13th of January,2025.
