A police officer from the Ekiti State Command has reportedly shot dead a woman in what can be described as an accidental discharge in Ado Ekiti.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at Okela police post, Ado Ekiti in the afternoon.
Witnesses confirmed that the woman was across the road in front of a saloon, when the gun of one of the officers attached to another unit of the Ekiti State Police Command but present in the station accidentally discharged and hit the woman.
She was rushed to the hospital but she eventually died.
When contacted, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, AIG Akinwale Adeniran confirmed the incident.
He said the officer in charge had been disarmed and detained for interrogation in line with the police act.
