••• We will not tolerate Anti party activities – APC

The political rifts that led to the emergence of Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa as former governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s successor in Ondo state may be far from over as there are plans by some political leaders and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC to work against Party’s candidate in Akure South local government, Gbenga Fasua ahead of the Saturday Local government election in the state.

The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission has fixed Saturday, January 18, 2025, for the conduct of the poll which will take place across the 18 local government areas of the state.

A source and a political leader in Akure South who pleaded anonymity said serious gang up are ongoing by leaders within the party and Akure community to support the chairmanship candidate of the PDP, Oluwatuyi Adekanbi at the expense of Fasua who is a preferred candidate of Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa.

He said some members of APC state executive members in the state are also in support of plot to ensure the PDP chairmanship candidate emerged.

He said, “Some Akure Political Leaders are seriously ganging up against Fasua, claiming that Governor Aiyedatiwa imposed him on them.

“The plan is to switch and work for the PDP chairmanship candidate and a younger brother to the Deji of Akure, even though Deji had told the governor in principle that he is neutral on the matter.

“The political leaders are still adamant that Fasua does not deserve to be the chairman of Akure South despite being governor Aiyedatiwa’s preferred candidate.

“Their plan is to slight the governor, vote for the PDP chairmanship candidate, Oluwatuyi Adekanbi and after he won, he would defect to the APC.“

It was gathered that the leaders were bent on punishing Fasua for supporting Aiyedatiwa during the political imbroglio when former governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was indisposed that later led to his death.

It was also gathered that the plot by the political leaders against Fasua was to stop him from becoming a political leader in the local government as his election as the chairman would make him the number one citizen in Akure South local government Area.

Reacting, the Director Media and Publicity of APC in Ondo state, Steve Otaloro who confirmed the development said the party would not tolerate anti larty activities ahead of the election.

Otaloro said, “I’d like to address the allegations of anti-party activities by some party leaders in Akure South local government, which have been circulating. I must emphasize that our party takes such allegations seriously and is committed to resolving any internal conflicts.

“In light of the recent LG primary election, our party has taken proactive steps to reconcile members and promote unity. To this end, we have established a reconciliatory committee under the leadership of our Deputy Chairman, Hon. Atili Agabra. This committee is tasked with addressing any grievances, resolving conflicts, and fostering a sense of unity among our members.

“I’d like to assure our supporters and the general public that our party remains committed to its values and principles. We will continue to work towards promoting unity, stability, and progress within our party and the nation at large.

“I must also emphasize that our party takes allegations of anti-party activities very seriously. However, in this case, I’m not aware of any credible evidence to support the claims that some party leaders in Akure South local government are working against our chairmanship candidate, Gbenga Fasua.

“We urge our members and supporters to remain focused on our shared goals of winning the coming LG election across the eighteen LG and to avoid spreading unsubstantiated rumors or allegations. Let’s work together to ensure the success of our party and all our candidates in this Saturday LG election in the state.“
