The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) has deployed security operatives to communities accommodating their students outside the campus.

SaharaReporters had reported that armed men, believed to be herders, were accused of breaking into the students’ private hostels, stealing phones and other valuables, and allegedly killing two individuals.

It was that the suspected herders invaded communities around Stadium Area of Ogbomoso town in Oyo State last Monday and burgled many hotels accommodating thousands of LAUTECH students.

Some of the affected students said the suspected herders broke into rooms and took away students’ belongings, majorly expensive phones and other gadgets.

The students said the assailants were armed with dangerous weapons, including guns and machetes.

Multiple sources also confirmed that at least two people were killed by the assailants during the invasion at a community close to the Under G area of the town.

In a statement on Thursday, the university management stated that the Office of the Dean of Students, in partnership with the Ogbomoso North Local Government and security agencies, has organised a security meeting to address the matter.

The outcome of the meeting was a resolution to have the school areas constantly patrolled by various security outfits to prevent attacks on students and ensure their safety.

The statement reads: “The office of the Dean of Students is fully aware of the Security challenges faced by the students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbemoso, in and around the school areas.

“Consequent upon this, the Ag. Dean of Students had organized a security meeting involving the Police Area Commander and representatives of other Security Agencies in Ogbomoso, held under the Chairmanship of the Ogbomoso North Local Government, Hon. Ogunlade George.

“It was thereby resolved and directed by the Chairman of ONIG that the school areas be constantly patrolled by the various security outfits to forestall attacks on our students and therefore ensure the safety of lives and properties of our students and others in the school areas.

“In view of this important step by the University authority, Ogbomoso North Local Government and the Security agencies, students are hereby strongly informed to stay calm and settle to their academic activities without fear.”
