Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, the wife of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has reportedly left for the United Kingdom, in less than 48 hours after making a surprise return to Nigeria on Saturday, attending a wedding ceremony at the Government House in Akure.
It was gathered that her brief arrival to Nigeria was to attend the wedding of the governor’s niece, which was held at the Government House Chapel.
A government source revealed that Oluwaseun had been based in the UK since leaving Ondo State in 2023.
The absence of Oluwaseun from public affairs had sparked discussions about governance and the role of the first lady in the administration.
Some residents had called for her return, believing her presence was essential to the government’s public image and operational stability.
Reacting on Saturday, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, widow of former Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, welcomed Oluwaseun’s return, describing it as a “welcome development” for women in the state. Anyanwu-Akeredolu noted that the return would revive the Office of the First Lady, refocusing attention on women’s issues
However, a government source suggested that Oluwaseun may not be interested in playing an active role in the administration, stating, “I don’t think the woman is interested in what is going on in this administration”
