Fear has gripped residents of Alade idanre in Idanre local government area of Ondo state as a mentally challenged young man in his 40s has taken over a cement depot in the town after violently overpowering the owner.
According to residents, what looked like a joke few days ago has now become a nightmare for them, especially the owner of the cement shop, Mrs Dolapo Olatunji.
Narrating the incident, Mrs Olatunji said she was in her shop, expecting a normal daily sales when the young man whose face she had never seen, just pounced on her and held her throat as he laid on her.
Mrs Olatunji explained that as she was crying for help so was the man before sympathizers came to rescue her.
She called on security agencies to intervene so she could llcontinue with her business as she was losing much due to the incident which has driven her customers away.
A vulcanizer, with his kiosk opposite the woman’s shop, confirmed that the woman was truly attacked and pinned down by the man some days ago until people mobilized themselves to free the poor woman from his grip.
A visit to the shop showed that the young man was fast asleep right in front of the shop in his white dress that had been soiled with dirt.
Meanwhile, authorities of the Idanre local government Council has taken up the case with a view to resolving it so that Mrs Olatunji can return to her shop.
The newly sworn in Vice chairman of the council, M Akinibosun confirmed this to journalists.
In the meantime, a leader in the community who preferred annonymity suggested that traditional process should be taken to banish the man from the community.
