Residents of Akure, the Ondo capital are now counting their losses as a heavy rainstorm, accompanied by strong winds, on Sunday caused serious damage.
The wind which lasted for almost one hour destroyed houses, schools, and church buildings and Police station.
Also destroyed by the wind were shops and solar powered poles recently installed by the government on roads in the areas.
The disaster, which occurred on Sunday evening around 4 pm, affected several areas in the state capital, including Oke Ogba, Fanibi, Lafe, Awule road and Agagu road.
Roving Reporters who monitored the situation observed that residents of the affected areas were overwhelmed with grief over the ugly development.
They were also seen salvaging their belongings while others stood aimlessly without knowing the next thing to do.







Properties worth millions of naira were said to be destroyed with valuable items in the affected shops and buildings.
One of the victims and food seller, Olowe Bosede Rachel recounted that she was with her little girl, said they narrowly escaped death as the storm removed her whole shop while they were inside.
She said the rainstorm which started with strong wind destroyed all her items.
A video clip obtained by Roving Reporters also showed how the rainstorm destroyed the roof of Fanibi Police station.

The residents appealed to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and philanthropists to urgently assist them so that they would start All over again.
