The Ondo state government on Saturday said it has received another, 1,200 batch of Prepaid Meters as efforts to put an end to unmetered and estimated billing of Consumers by the distribution company in the state.

The Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Energy, Mr Johnson Alabi disclosed this in an interview with Roving Reporters.

Alabi said the new consignment was part of the 5,000 prepaid meters earlier ordered by the state government which had been purchased by residents of the state.

According to him, the state’s flagship O’Datiwa Metering Programme has already installed over 7,000 meters in just four months.

He said the meters, including 4G and 5G smart meters, were being provided to consumers at subsidized rates, with costs to be refunded through future vending.

Alabi pointed out that a new application was being developed to monitor meter deployment across the state toward reducing energy theft in the state.

Alabi said; “The meters we received yesterday (Friday) numbered 1,200. Expectedly, we booked for about 5,000 meters in February.

“So, 3,800 meters have been delivered to us. The balance of 1,200 was received yesterday and the 3,800 before now has been exhausted.

“The 1,200 that we have received now, it’s almost exhausted because the people that are applying online are close to 1,000.

“However, by the first week of April, we are expecting about 10,000 meters of stock. Our target for the year is 60,000.
