The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande on Monday exonerated Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, for distributing food to residents during his recent visit to Northern Nigeria.
Seyi has been receiving backlashes from some northern leaders especially a former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido who condemned his visit to northern Nigeria, where he distributed food to residents.
Lamido described the act as a “humiliation” and an insult to the people of the region.
In a video where he was addressing a gathering in Hausa, Lamido criticised the gesture, suggesting that it was degrading and politically motivated.
However reacting on Channel TV’s Politics Today, as monitored by Roving Reporters, Olawande said seyi committed no crime for associating with the people during Ramadan.
He said, “It is not compulsory that everybody is happy with what you do. Just for you to be focused and once you do the right thing and do the right thing for the people.
“He has the people at heart, and not that we are sharing food for the people. It was an Idea and we were breaking fast with the young people even regardless of the political party they belonged to.
“So is not that he just went to Share food , how would you just go and share food ? Does it look like an empowerment ? No.
“It’s just breaking of Iftar, so I don’t think there is any offence breaking Iftar with the young people All over the country.“
