Tragedy struck as a tricycle driver, popularly known as a Maruwa ok Monday died in an accident involving a truck along the Ijoka area of Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The tricyclist was said to be returning from a church service in the early hours of Monday when the unfortunate incident occurred.
His wife and son, however, escaped death, sustaining only minor injuries.
He was reported to have died before he could be rushed to the state hospital for treatment.
His tragic death caused panic in the area as his colleagues followed his injured body to the hospital.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that the Maruwa driver was trying to avoid a pothole when he rammed into an oncoming truck.
He said the impact of the accident on the tricycle was massive.
“The accident was fatal because of its impact. It was only the driver that died; his family members were able to escape death,” he said.
