Road Crashes kill 53 in Four Months in Ondo – FRSC raises Alarm

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC on Monday said a total of 53 persons have died through Road Traffic Crashes that occurred within the first quarter of 2025 in Ondo State.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, stated this while briefing Newsmen in Akure the state capital.

He said, “In Ondo State, Road Traffic Crashes in the first quarter of 2025 killed 53 people while 244 were injured in 94 cases of RTC incidents.

“The killed included 39 male adults, 13 female adults and one female child.

“These statistics remain horrendous and worrisome necessitating all stakeholders to reflect on the repugnant occurrence.

“The crashes are caused mainly by speeding, dangerous driving, overloading: fatigue, bad roads, host issues, impatience and disregard for vehicle care.

“The need to reflect on our attitude as road users, government, policy makers, engineers; designers of the roads, vehicles and other mobility components, civil society organizations is necessary to bring a change in road safety administration and road traffic management to reduce unnecessary death on the roads.

“It is also incumbent on drivers, pedestrians and passengers to evolve a change in behavior such that every user of the road will have a duty to exhibit a positive attitude to ensure a reduction in the occurrence of road traffic crashes.

“Drivers, especially the commercial drivers are admonished to desist from drunk driving, road rage and speeding on the road to reduce road traffic crashes.”
