The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a suspected ritualist for allegedly inflicting grievous bodily harm on a two-month-old baby.
The suspect, identified as Samuel Adebisi Adewunmi, also known as Ifa Science, was apprehended following a tip-off from a 53-year-old man, Kola Taiwo, who discovered a suspicious injury on the back of the infant’s head.
According to a statement issued by the NSCDC spokesperson, Dyke Ogbonnaya, the arrest took place on Thursday, May 1, 2025, after the command received the report and swiftly acted to detain the suspect. Preliminary investigations suggest the injury may be linked to ritualistic practices.
“The officers and men of the Corps moved quickly to arrest the suspect, who is now undergoing further investigation with the Command’s Intelligence and Investigations Department,” Ogbonnaya stated.
The NSCDC affirmed that the offense is punishable under the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, and assured the public that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure justice is served.
Reacting to the incident, NSCDC Ogun State Commandant, Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo, issued a stern warning to individuals intending to perpetrate acts of violence or harm, particularly against children.
“Parents must be vigilant and critical about the safety and whereabouts of their children,” she said. “Anyone caught inflicting bodily harm or engaging in dangerous acts will face the full weight of the law.”
The investigation is ongoing as the NSCDC works to uncover the full details surrounding the incident.
