Following the affirmation of his election victory by the Ondo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has called on opposition parties to set politics aside and collaborate for the progress of the state.
Speaking to Newsmen shortly after the tribunal delivered its unanimous verdict, Aiyedatiwa expressed deep gratitude to God and the people of Ondo State, stating that the judgment had reaffirmed the people’s will.
“I give thanks to Almighty God who orchestrated this journey from the beginning and used the good people of Ondo State.
Over 366,000 residents gave us their mandate on November 16 last year to continue governing this state as the seventh democratically elected governor.
That mandate has now been validated by the tribunal. While some political parties tried to overturn the people’s decision through the backdoor, the judiciary has fulfilled its role by upholding the choice made by the majority of voters across the 18 local government areas of the state,” he stated.
He also acknowledged the support of key stakeholders within his administration and party:
“I appreciate my deputy, our party members, and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for standing firm with us throughout this process.”
When asked whether he would reach out to opposition figures in light of the ruling, Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his open-door policy and willingness to work with all stakeholders.
“From the very day I was declared winner, I called on the opposition to join us in developing Ondo State. If they truly have the interest of the state at heart, they are welcome to bring their ideas forward so we can work together for the progress of our dear state.”
The day’s proceedings concluded with a jubilant rally led by the Governor himself. From the premises of the Ondo State High Court—where the tribunal had just affirmed his mandate—Aiyedatiwa joined a large crowd of supporters in a victory procession to his campaign secretariat located along Oyemekun Road, Akure.
The atmosphere was festive as party loyalists, youth groups, and local residents celebrated what they described as a victory for democracy, stability, and continuity in governance.
