Ondo CP Flags Rising Security Threats

Cultism, kidnapping, land grabbing, drug abuse, and vehicle theft are among the pressing security challenges currently confronting Ondo State, according to the State Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olatokunbo Afolabi.

CP Afolabi raised these concerns during a courtesy visit to the Ondo State House of Assembly in Akure, where he briefed lawmakers on the current security landscape across the state.

He revealed that the Command has adopted more modern and adaptive strategies, including motorbike patrols in hard-to-reach areas and the formation of a Community Safety Partnership aimed at rebuilding public trust in law enforcement.

However, the Commissioner also pointed out significant operational challenges, such as inadequate logistics, overlapping duties among security agencies, and the need for advanced technologies, including drones and tracking systems, to effectively combat insecurity.

In response, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, pledged the full legislative backing of the Assembly to support the Command’s efforts.

He commended CP Afolabi for his proactive leadership and commitment to enhancing inter-agency collaboration and public engagement.

Oladiji further assured that the legislature would look into resolving conflicts of roles among security agencies through necessary legislative reforms, reinforcing the Assembly’s commitment to improved security governance in Ondo State.
