Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has officially flagged off the second phase of the Federal Government’s Conditional Cash Transfer programme in Ondo State, announcing that 16,255 vulnerable residents across all 18 Local Government Areas will receive ₦75,000 each over a period of three months.

The launch event, held at the Akure South Local Government Secretariat on Friday, marked the commencement of the distribution of Renewed Hope Debit Cards to beneficiaries under the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), implemented in collaboration with the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) and the Ondo State Government.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, speaking at the event, declared:

“Today, we take yet another bold step in our ongoing commitment to improving the welfare of our people, ensuring social inclusion and fulfilling the promise of Renewed Hope for all.”

He emphasized the significance of the initiative as a tangible measure of economic relief:

“We understand the economic challenges that many of our people face, and this programme is a clear demonstration that the government stands with you.”

The Governor disclosed that a total of ₦1,219,125,000 is being injected into the state’s economy through the scheme, with each beneficiary receiving ₦25,000 monthly for three months. This follows a previous phase in November 2024, during which 8,637 debit cards were distributed, totaling ₦647,775,000.

In further remarks, Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusivity:

“Efforts are ongoing to expand the state’s social register to accommodate more vulnerable households. No vulnerable household should be left behind.”

He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, saying:

“We are grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for sustaining this vital programme and for prioritizing the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.”

He encouraged recipients to use the funds prudently:

“To our esteemed beneficiaries, I urge you to use these funds wisely, invest in your families, support your businesses, and ensure that this opportunity translates to meaningful progress in your lives.”

In his welcome address, Mr. Alonge Felix Kolawole, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Investment, emphasized the transparency of the process:

“This programme is a reflection of the Governor’s ‘Our Ease’ agenda, aimed at making life easier for vulnerable groups, particularly women and persons with disabilities. The selection process was purely based on Community-Based Targeting Enumeration, free from favoritism or political interference.”

The State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. James Adekunle, lauded the initiative:

“Ondo State remains one of the few states that has fully keyed into the Renewed Hope agenda of President Tinubu. Governor Aiyedatiwa’s proactive efforts are bringing national programmes to the grassroots.”

Hon. Gbenga Fasua, Chairman of Akure South Local Government, also praised the Governor’s leadership:

“Governor Aiyedatiwa is a divinely chosen leader. His commitment to poverty alleviation is evident and is transforming lives across the state.”

In a royal endorsement, the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, expressed strong support for the Governor:

“The people of Ondo State made the right decision in entrusting their future to Governor Aiyedatiwa. He has not disappointed. His alignment with the Renewed Hope agenda is commendable.”

Giving the vote of thanks, the Senior Special Assistant on Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship, Mr. Gbayisemore Orioye, noted:

“Ondo State has become the third state in the country to begin implementation of this scheme, thanks to the Governor’s strong support and leadership.”

Among the visibly grateful recipients was Falaye Emmanuel, one of the beneficiaries:

“This cash transfer is timely and a great relief to my household. I thank the government for this life-changing support.”

The ceremony was well-attended by top government officials including Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami, lawmakers, traditional rulers, LCDA Chairmen, political leaders, and community stakeholders.
