Lagos, Nigeria — The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the interrogation of Pastor Paul Adefarasin, Founder and Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, over a viral video in which he appeared to be holding a gun-like object during a roadside encounter.
Pastor Adefarasin voluntarily turned himself in to police detectives at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja on Monday.
This follows mounting public pressure and widespread speculation on social media after the controversial footage surfaced last week.
Confirming the development, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said:
“No one is above the law. Pastor Paul Adefarasin has turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, and is currently being interrogated by detectives. An investigation has commenced, and the outcome will be made public.”
The now-viral clip shows the pastor holding a metallic object while speaking to a passerby who was recording him.
Many online viewers alleged the object resembled a firearm, prompting concerns about public safety and responsible conduct.
In a statement shared on his social media accounts, Pastor Adefarasin sought to clarify the incident, saying:
“The object seen in the video was not a firearm. It is unfortunate that the situation has been misunderstood. At no point did I point anything at anyone.”
He added:
“I take the concerns raised seriously and have cooperated fully with the authorities to clear up any confusion.”
Police sources also noted that investigators are reviewing the legality of the vehicle used by the pastor during the incident, which was reportedly unregistered at the time.
As the investigation continues, CSP Hundeyin reaffirmed the command’s commitment to justice and due process, stating:
“We are treating this matter with the seriousness it deserves. The law applies equally to all citizens, regardless of status.”
The police have assured the public that findings from the investigation will be disclosed in due course.
