Ogunmolasuyi Under Fire: Youths Accuse Lawmaker of Selling Out Ondo Assembly

by Roving

In a protest that rocked the Ondo State House of Assembly complex on Tuesday, a group known as the Owo Concerned Youths called for the immediate recusal of Hon. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi from participating in the ongoing screening of commissioner nominees by governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Hon. Ogunmolasuyi, the lawmaker representing Owo Constituency 1 and a former Majority Leader of the Assembly, has come under fire for allegedly breaching trust and constitutional protocol by issuing public congratulations to commissioner designates before they were officially screened.

The protesting youths, numbering about 50, arrived at the Assembly complex carrying bold placards with inscriptions such as “Hon. Ogunmolasuyi Must Recuse Himself” and “Integrity Matters in Commissioner Screening.”

In a petition submitted to the Assembly leadership, the youths described Hon. Ogunmolasuyi’s action as “a breach of trust” and one that “puts the assembly in bad light as a rubber-stamp arm for the executive rather than a co-equal and functional arm of government.”

“We will not stand idly by while our representative compromises the integrity of the Assembly,” said a spokesperson for the group.

“We demand that Hon. Ogunmolasuyi recuse himself from the screening process to restore public trust.”

The group warned that the incident raises broader concerns about democratic governance in the state and called for opposition forces to step up.

“Democracy is indeed in danger,” the group stated in its petition.
“Rather than waste time in court over an 18-0 loss, the opposition must put its house in order.”

They further threatened legal action if the Assembly fails to act on their demands.

“If nothing is done, we will commence court proceedings to stop the Assembly from continuing the screening process,” the group declared.

This unexpected development has sent ripples through the Ondo State political landscape, raising questions about the independence of the legislature and how the Assembly will respond under public scrutiny.

As of press time, Hon. Ogunmolasuyi had not publicly responded to the allegations or indicated whether he would recuse himself.

The petition by the Owo Concerned Youths serves as a sharp reminder of the growing expectations for integrity, transparency, and constitutional adherence in governance.
