A wave of political tension has gripped Idanre community as internal disputes among political actors have spilled over onto social media, drawing concern from traditional authorities.

The Regent and Lisa (Traditional Prime Minister) of Idanre Land, High Chief Christopher Oluwole Akindolire, has raised an alarm over the disturbing trend of verbal attacks, online abuse, and bitter rivalries among politicians and their supporters in the ancient town.

In a strongly worded press release issued on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the High Chief lamented the erosion of decorum and communal respect at a time when the community is still mourning the demise of its revered monarch, the late Owa of Idanre, who passed away less than a year ago.

“This is morally disheartening and goes against the expected norms of our society,” the Regent stated.

“We are still in a period of mourning, and it is sad to witness our own sons and daughters insulting each other online over political interests.”

Sources within the community suggest the crisis stems from deep-seated political rivalries ahead of local government and traditional succession processes.

Political stakeholders have reportedly engaged in character assassination, tribal baiting, and public defamation campaigns on social platforms, drawing widespread reactions from the youth and elders alike.

The High Chief urged all parties to refrain from divisive rhetoric and advised that grievances be channeled through traditional dispute resolution systems involving local elders and chiefs.

“Idanre is one. We must not allow personal interests to tear us apart,” he said. “Peace and unity are the foundation of progress, and we must not sacrifice that on the altar of political ambition.”

Community leaders and residents have echoed the Regent’s concerns, with many calling for a return to mutual respect and traditional values that have long defined Idanre’s cultural heritage.

As the town continues to navigate this sensitive period of leadership transition and political engagement, all eyes remain on how its stakeholders will respond to the Regent’s call for peace and reconciliation.
