FUTA stands by Student as JAMB Flags Admission ’Fake’

Akure — A graduate of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Jamiu Basola, is currently in limbo after the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) flagged his university admission as “fake” — a revelation that came just as he was preparing for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilization.

Basola, who was admitted into the Department of Civil Engineering in the 2017/2018 academic session after passing the 2017 UTME, had successfully completed the five-year programme.

However, while attempting to complete the NYSC mobilization form, he discovered that his admission was not recognized in the JAMB database.

Upon contacting JAMB, Basola was informed that the issue would need to be investigated by the Nigeria Police. Following this, the Police invited FUTA and conducted a thorough review of all documents related to his admission.

The institution presented all necessary records in its possession. A formal Police report was subsequently compiled and submitted to JAMB headquarters in Abuja for further action.

FUTA, in a show of support for the embattled graduate, also sent a formal reminder to JAMB to expedite resolution of the case.

The university emphasized that it had fulfilled all obligations regarding the matter, having admitted Basola through its standard process and provided all relevant documentation.

Speaking on the issue in a statement on Saturday, Adegbenro Adebanjo, FUTA’s Director of Corporate Communications and Protocol, said:

“FUTA has discharged its responsibility on the matter on behalf of Jamiu Basola and now awaits action from JAMB, which flagged his status in the first place. The ball is now in JAMB’s court.”

As the situation stands, Jamiu Basola remains unable to proceed with NYSC mobilization, and his academic future hangs in the balance — awaiting JAMB’s final verdict.
