••• Thousands rendered homeless as Lawmakers Demand Action in Ondo Flood Horror

A devastating flood that struck Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency in Ondo State has displaced thousands, including a revered traditional ruler — the Traditional Prime Minister (Tarabiritoru) of the ancient Arogbo Ijaw Kingdom — who has now been rendered homeless.

The House of Representatives on Thursday called on the federal government to establish a special fund to combat the menace of erosion and its destructive impact in the region.

This resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Hon. Donald Ojogo (APC, Ondo), who highlighted the dire need for federal intervention and relief for victims of the ongoing flood disaster.

According to Ojogo, the flood, which began on 1st July 2025, continues to ravage several communities within the constituency, severely impacting daily life and infrastructure.

He noted that seventeen (17) out of the twenty-two (22) electoral wards in the area have been affected, with over 15,000 residents displaced.

He also revealed that nine individuals have been hospitalized due to complications arising from the flood, while thousands more are facing severe hardship and emotional trauma.

In response, the House directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to immediately dispatch relief materials and provide temporary shelter to those affected.

Ojogo further emphasized the urgent need for the federal government to address the worsening crisis, warning that the stagnant waters could soon trigger an outbreak of waterborne diseases, potentially leading to an epidemic in the region.
