Panic in Akungba as Two AAUA Students declared Missing

by Roving

There is growing tension at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, as two second-year students have been declared missing under mysterious circumstances.

The students — Andrel Eloho Okah of the Department of History and International Studies, Faculty of Arts, and John Friday Abba of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Agriculture — have not been seen or heard from for over two weeks.

Concerned students told The Nation that both undergraduates, who are said to be close friends, suddenly disappeared without prior notice. All attempts to reach them via their mobile phones have proved futile.

One of their classmates, who identified himself simply as Ajibola, expressed deep concern over the situation. He revealed that the duo had not attended classes or participated in any academic activities since their disappearance.

“For over two weeks now, the two of them have been missing from campus. We have searched around, made calls, and even checked with their friends and roommates, but no one knows their whereabouts,” Ajibola said.

“What is even more worrisome is that authorities are downplaying the situation. The school is telling us to ‘stay calm’, but this is a serious matter. We don’t know if it’s a case of abduction or something more sinister.”

Sources within the university confirmed that the case had been reported to both the school management and the police. However, students say they are dissatisfied with the response so far.

While efforts by the families of the missing students to find them have intensified, there has been no breakthrough. The matter has reportedly been escalated to law enforcement agencies, although official responses remain limited.

When contacted for comments, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Victor Akinpelumi, declined to speak on the matter. However, a senior management source who asked not to be named confirmed that the university was aware of the development and is in contact with the police.

“We are monitoring the situation closely and working with the police. Unfortunately, these cases are often complicated by the lifestyle of some students on campus,” the source added cryptically.

The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, was unreachable as of the time of filing this report. Calls to his phone went unanswered, and text messages sent to his line were undelivered.

As the mystery deepens, students and families continue to call for transparency, urgency, and a coordinated effort to ensure the safe return of Andrel and John.

It is in this Nigeria that you will make an urgent call but there will be no response from those we called Nigeria security forces. What a pity to a nation that has no concern for her citizens. May God deliver and safe us.
