Shockwave in Ondo Politics as Jegede, Others set to berth ADC Coalition

by Roving

In what appears to be a dramatic shift in Ondo State’s political landscape, key figures in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have concluded plans to defect en masse to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling a major realignment ahead of the 2025 elections.

Led by Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) — a former PDP governorship candidate — the defectors include Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, Hon. Dr. Bode Ayorinde (Achievers University founder), Tola Alabere, and several other political influencers across the state.

This move was subtly confirmed via a post on one of their verified X (formerly Twitter) accounts on Tuesday, sparking intense political speculation and public discourse.

According to party insiders, the exodus is driven by deep dissatisfaction with the internal leadership crisis within the Ondo PDP and the perceived hijacking of the party by self-serving interests.

“We can’t continue in a structure where the people’s voices no longer count,” a close ally of the group stated, hinting that their decision is more than a protest — it’s a strategic repositioning.

ADC in Ondo State: From Fringe to Force?

Once regarded as a fringe party in the state, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is now emerging as a potent third-force coalition platform, banking on widespread disillusionment with the two dominant parties — the APC and PDP.

Historically, ADC’s influence in Ondo has been modest, with limited electoral wins.

However, the party has maintained a steady grassroots structure in Akure South, Owo, and Ondo East. With the influx of PDP heavyweights, ADC may now possess both the name recognition and political machinery to challenge in key races.

Insiders say discussions are ongoing to formalize the coalition’s framework, which could include ADC, other minor parties, and civil society blocs dissatisfied with the status quo.
