Amidst growing speculations and political realignments ahead of the 2025 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State Chapter, has firmly denied any coalition or merger with any political party or movement.
In a strongly worded statement jointly signed by prominent leaders of the party in Ondo State, including its 2024 governorship candidate, Agboola Ajayi, and key members of the Board of Trustees, the PDP described the recent wave of defections and alliance talks as “political distractions and illusions with no ideological depth.”
“We wish to reassure our teeming supporters that the PDP remains strong, focused, and unshaken in Ondo State. No part of the national or state leadership has entered any coalition discussions, contrary to speculations making the rounds,” the statement read.
Party leaders acknowledged that the movements of certain political figures had triggered concern among loyalists but emphasized that PDP’s structures in the 203 wards and 18 local government areas remain intact and operational.
“Our goal remains clear — to rescue, rebuild, and reposition Nigeria and Ondo State through the ballot. Those who have been misled into believing in an imaginary coalition should retrace their steps. The PDP is not part of any merger or third force,” the statement added.
While acknowledging that the political climate in Nigeria often breeds uncertainty and temptation, the party urged its members to remain vigilant, organized, and committed to the PDP vision.
It warned that many of the so-called coalitions lack ideological clarity and cannot rival the “tested and trusted” PDP structure.
“The PDP is not just a party—it is a movement. Our mobilization for the next election is fully underway. We are not relenting. We are rebuilding,” the leaders stressed.
The statement also cautioned against being swayed by defections, describing them as glittering distractions that lack substance. “Not all that glitters is gold. Loyalty to a just cause will outlast opportunistic alignments,” the PDP said.
They concluded by charging party faithful—especially youths, women, elders, and grassroots leaders—to remain engaged and optimistic as preparations for the next electoral cycle continue.
The statement was jointly signed by: Sen. Dr. Bode Olajumoke (BOT Life Member), Dr. Eddy Olafeso (BOT Member), H.E. Agboola Alfred Ajayi (2024 Governorship Candidate), Hon. Barr. Debo Ologunagba (National Publicity Secretary), Engr. Clement Faboyede (NEC Member), Hon. Olajide Oguntodu (Minority Leader, ODHA), Pastor Ladi Omotehinse (Chairman, Forum of PDP LG Chairmen), Rt. Hon. Chief Bakkita Bello, PhD (State Caretaker Committee Chairman), Barr. Oluseye Olujimi (Secretary, State Caretaker Committee).
