Three personnel of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, have sustained serious injuries following a fierce gun battle with suspected kidnappers in the state.
The Commandant of the Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the incident, noting that the gunmen opened fire on Amotekun operatives upon realising they were being pursued.
“No life was lost, but three of our men were severely injured and are currently receiving treatment,” Adeleye stated.
This development comes on the heels of the abduction of seven farmers at their farm in Itaogbolu, in Akure North Local Government Area, on Saturday. The victims were reportedly harvesting palm fruits when they were taken by armed men.
According to family members, the kidnappers have since made contact and are demanding a ransom of N100 million for the farmers’ release.
Adeleye assured the public that the Corps remains relentless in its efforts to rescue the victims.
“We are deep in the forest, sleeping there, and combing every inch to track these criminals. By God’s grace, we will secure their release,” he vowed.
