The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Professor Olugbenga Ige, has described the appointment of his predecessor, Professor Igbekele Ajibefun, as the Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, as a perfect and timely decision.
Professor Ige made the remark on Thursday, July 31, during a courtesy and congratulatory visit to the new Commissioner at his office in Akure. The visit was led by the VC alongside members of the University Management.
He noted that Prof. Ajibefun’s appointment was a natural recognition of his impressive leadership record and unwavering dedication to public service.
“Your appointment did not come to us as a surprise. It reflects your years of meritorious service—as a Rector and as a Vice Chancellor—marked by excellence, diligence and results. This is indeed a round peg in a round hole,” the VC said.
Commending Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for what he described as a thoughtful and visionary decision, Prof. Ige expressed confidence that the state’s education sector would witness remarkable transformation under Ajibefun’s leadership.
“We trust that you will bring your wealth of experience to bear and reposition the sector for excellence. We also pray for strength, wisdom, and every needed support for your success,” he added.
In his remarks, Prof. Ajibefun expressed appreciation to the University Management for the visit and for sustaining the institution’s tradition of academic excellence under Prof. Ige’s leadership.
He acknowledged the governor’s passion for educational development and assured that the Ministry would work collaboratively to address systemic challenges and raise standards at all levels.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa is genuinely committed to transforming education across all tiers. With synergy and dedication, we shall reposition the sector to meet global expectations,” he affirmed.
