Musical training now proven to boost brain power, mental health, and economic potential for young Nigerians
Aspiring pianists and keyboard enthusiasts in Akure have a golden opportunity this August as De Emeralds Perfect Expressions rolls out its month-long Intensive Piano and Keyboard Lesson Program, designed for all ages and skill levels.
Kicking off next Monday, classes will hold three times weekly—Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays—throughout August at the De Emeralds Secretariat, Yafrato Shopping Complex, Alagbaka, Akure.
Participants can choose from two daily sessions: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., allowing flexibility for schoolchildren, working adults, and retirees alike.
But beyond musical enjoyment, experts say learning to play instruments like the keyboard offers tangible health and economic benefits—especially for Nigeria’s youth navigating an increasingly digital and competitive world.
Why Music? The Hidden Benefits of Playing the Keyboard
Boosts Brain Development:
Neuroscientific studies show that musical training enhances memory, attention span, and cognitive flexibility.
Children who learn instruments like the keyboard early often perform better in academics—particularly in math and reading.
Improves Mental Health & Discipline:
Regular keyboard practice has been linked to reduced anxiety and stress, promoting emotional stability and patience. It also teaches commitment and goal-setting—soft skills crucial in today’s fast-paced society.
Opens Doors to Economic Opportunities:
In Nigeria’s booming creative economy, keyboard skills can evolve from a hobby into a side hustle or full-blown career in music production, church/ministry roles, teaching, or performing arts.
With increasing demand for skilled instrumentalists, many young Nigerians are turning their music passion into profit.
Reduces Screen Time with Purposeful Engagement:
At a time when excessive screen time and online distractions are a growing concern for parents, music practice offers a productive and meaningful alternative.
A Creative Space for Growth
According to organizers, this program aims to help young and older learners unlock their musical potential in a supportive and structured environment.
“We want to create a space where anyone—regardless of age or background—can find joy in music while also developing life-long skills that benefit them mentally, socially, and economically,” a representative of De Emeralds stated.
