A mild drama unfolded on Friday afternoon at a popular drycleaning outfit (name witheld ) in Alagbaka Akure, the Ondo State capital, when an enraged man stormed the premises to confront staff who had reportedly refused to accept his girlfriend’s underwear for washing.
The incident, which drew a small crowd of amused and confused passersby, occurred at the drycleaner’s branch located along one of the city’s bustling commercial routes.
Eyewitnesses said the man arrived on a commercial motorcycle, visibly angry and shouting at the attendants.
According to one eyewitness, the man was furious that the drycleaning staff had rejected some pairs of his girlfriend’s pants that were packed alongside other clothes for laundry.
The staff reportedly explained that they had a policy against handling intimate undergarments, especially female underwear, due to hygiene and ethical concerns.
“He kept shouting that they were insulting him and girlfriend by treating her clothes like they were diseased,” a witness told our correspondent.
“He said he would report the staff to their ‘boss’ — we didn’t really understand what that meant, but he was clearly not having it.”
The altercation escalated as the man demanded to see the manager, threatening to “shut down the place” and vowing to report the incident.
The drycleaning staff, however, remained calm and tried to de-escalate the situation, explaining their long-standing policy.
Security personnel from nearby shops later intervened to calm the man, who eventually left the premises fuming, though without further violence.
